1971 meters above sea
level, the Queen of Hills in the north India, Mussoorie, is very
popular as a hill station. Major Heresay founded Mussoorie in 1811.
The first guest house here was built by Captain Young in 1826. After
that within the next 10 years, almost 100 guest houses sprang up.
Today, Mussoorie is equipped with all the facilities
available in cities. It is close to Delhi. It takes just an
overnight journey to get here from Delhi. Mussoorie is full of
greenery, bazaars, and beautiful gardens.
Tourist
sites:
Gun Hill: This is
the highest point in Mussoorie. Here you will find a cannon from
which you get the name of Gunhill. One can arrive here after a 1km
walk or by using the ropeway.
Lal Tibba: This
is a very high peak and is part of old Mussoorie. Through a big
binocular placed here one can view the various peaks of the
Himalayas.
Kempty Fall: John
Mckenon founded this place in 1835. At a height of 40 feet is the
waterfall. Mussoorie is 13 kms from Kempty Fall. A lot of
people bathe in this fall. To bathe here, one has to climb up to
Talhati. Buses and taxis are available from Mussoorie. The up and
down fare is charged in advance.
Lake Mist: 7 kms
from Mussoorie, this lake is en-route to Kempty Falls. Entry to this
place is charged. One can stay overnight too. There is a beautiful
hotel built with logs where one can eat. A swimming pool and boating
facilities are available. Accommodation is available in the form of
holiday huts. If one wants to get away from the crowds in Mussoorie
in summer, one can stay here provided prior reservations are made.
The beauty of this place is incomparable.
Company
Garden: A beautiful garden with a small lake for
boating. It is 4 kms by road and 2 kms by walk via the Beverly
Convent Road. A park with all facilities for children and a Tibetan
Bazaar are close by.
Cloud
End: This is a beautiful building.
When one views it from a distance it looks like you have
reached the end of the clouds. A British Major built it in 1838.
Later it was converted into a hotel. This hotel is surrounded
by a thick forest.
Mussoorie
lake: 7 kms from Mussoorie on the Dehra Dun Road is
this man-made lake was formed by stopping a mountain stream.
An entrance fees charged here and one can go boating. Many
films have been shot here.
Camel's Back
Road: This road starts near Kulri Bazaar and ends at
Library Bazaar. This road is 3 kms long and its main attraction is
horse riding and strolling.
Tibetan Temple: 4
kms from the Library Point is this Tibetan temple which preaches
Buddhism.
Jhadipani Falls:
8.5 kms from Mussoorie one can arrive here by bus or car. Then walk
another 1.5 kms. This is a lovely picnic spot.
Ven Chetna Spot:
2 kms from Mussoorie, this is beautiful picnic spot. Turned
into a park, it is surrounded by pine trees and small bushes.
Temple of Snake God: 6 kms away from Mussoorie, this ancient
temple, from where Doon Valley and Mussoorie are visible.
Nag Tibba: 55 kms from
Mussoorie, this is a trekking spot. It is surrounded by
forests but there is no place to stay here.

Travel Plans
:
Air: The closest airport is the Jolly Grant
but it does not have regular flights.
Rail: The closest railway station is Dehra
Dun which is 36 kms from Mussoorie. Dehra Dun is connected by rail
to all the metropolitan cities. From Dehra Dun to Mussoorie one can
go by bus or taxis.
Road: Tourism Departments of various states
like Punjab, Haryana, Delhi etc. operate tourist buses to
Mussoorie.
Tourist Season
:The best time is mid April to mid June and mid
September to mid November.
Shopping: Woodwork items.
